Salsolidine is a tetrahydroisoquinolone alkaloid found in Salsola and other plants. Salsolidine inhibits monoamine oxidase (MAO), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and buytlcholinesterase (BChE). Salsolidine may inhibit catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). Derivatives of salsolidine are neurotoxic and cytotoxic.
